About Wanigas Rod Company
Wanigas Rod Company was originally started by three returning World War II servicemen in the Saginaw / Bay City area of Michigan. Originally named, The Renew Rod Shop, their business plan was to provide a service to maintain and repair fishing equipment for the returning post-war sportsman and to be a source for new quality gear. In addition, these knowledgeable anglers set themselves up as a resource for the sports fisherman, both novice or experienced angler, who sought a "no bull" point of view regarding their equipment needs. Their belief was that quality gear, thoughtfully maintained, has a greater value and life. This premise is the foundation stone for the present Wanigas Rod Company.
The shop's name changed to Wanigas Rod Company shortly after operations commenced. The name is the city of Saginaw spelled backwards. The Wanigas Rod Company built a name for one of the most extensive selections of bamboo, fiberglass and graphite rods in the country. Continuing with these original tenets, Wanigas provides quality fly fishing tackle to discerning anglers. Our line of products is limited and unique. All our products (except Hardy reels) are from United States companies, manufactured in the U.S.A. The majority of our products are made in Michigan. Our inventory is "in stock" and immediately available for shipment.
Our commitment to quality extends to the environment and in fact, the purpose for this business is to achieve funding for coldwater related stream conservation, protection and restoration; fifty percent (50%) of Wanigas' net profits will be donated to coldwater fisheries conservation, restoration and preservation in the State of Michigan, through a matching grant program available to established qualifying non-profit conservation organizations.
QUALITY, PRICE AND INVESTMENT:
There was time when the great majority of products available to the sporting public were quality built; manufactured for the hard use exacted in the field, serviceability and longevity. Those of you looking for value for your hard-won dollar will find it here. The shift in today’s world is away from the cheap and disposable, back to the valued quality product. Many of the products in our inventory are investments, certainly to be used and maintained, destined to become sporting collectibles.
